THE PROJECT

THE PROJECT

OJOS MAYAS,

community tourism project that harmoniously unites Mayan communities with travelers around the world and provides visitors an opportunity to strengthen, share and learn about the Mayan culture, their communities, ideologies, traditions and economic centers in contemporary Mexico.

We plan TRIPS to take an in-depth look at a Mayan society that successfully continues to shape the culture and economies of the Riviera Maya.

The Mayan communities are located in the MAYAN ZONE of Quintana Roo. An area located in the central part of the state.

Close to Cancun or Playa del Carmen, we can discover a cultural legacy preserved within the customs of today

THE TRAVEL EXPERIENCE

SEÑOR!:  A LIVING MAYA COMMUNITY!

Have you ever wondered what life is like in a Mayan village today? What would it look like? How would the local people really dress, eat, work, pray and go about their daily lives? Are you interested in a cultural experience more meaningful than a quick stop for souvenirs orchestrated by a big bus tour on your way home from the ruins. I'm talking about a full day spent in a remote village talking with the local residents, meeting with village elders, learning about the proud history of the Mayan in Quintana Roo.

Señor  is a small village, located 180 km from Playa del Carmen, in the south of Quintana Roo, where you can do the following activities:

  • Visit an herbal doctor.

  • Listen the stories of a mayan elder.

  • Discover how sisal yarn is made.

  • Discover the Melipona bees.

  • Regional cuisine for lunch.

  • Local arts and crafts.

The community is located in the south of the state of Quintana Roo, consider a 2.5 hours drive from Playa del Carmen . We leave at 7:00 am and will be back around 6 pm.
